Cycle #24: Crazy Ophelia

Cycle #24 :: 02-Jun-2006 to 13-Jun-2006

{Bonorum | Transits | Via Combusta}

ran ephemerides for new asteroids & finished plugging them in. asteroid #171-OPHELIA endpoint. extremely ironic the first day of the North Atlantic hurricane season. Hurricane Ophelia was one of the most erratic, meandering & neurotic hurricanes of the 2005 season. it was the fifteenth named tropical cyclone and the eighth hurricane forming on 06-Sep-2005 & dissipating 23-Sep-2005. currently, there are numerous predictions for the 2006 hurricane season in the news. wikipedia article describing Ophelia:

From September 9 to September 11, Ophelia fluctuated in strength, being downgraded to a tropical storm only to regain hurricane intensity three more times; during this time it moved only very slowly and erratically in a northeasterly direction. The NHC continued to struggle to predict Ophelia, with the forecasts generally calling for a landfall on the east coast of the United States. The forecasters indicated there was a possibility that Ophelia could strengthen further to Category 3 strength, though they felt this was unlikely.[3] On September 12 the storm completed a clockwise loop, then adopted a more north-westerly motion towards North Carolina, while still moving only slowly and fitfully. It dropped again just below hurricane strength when the inner core of convection collapsed, possibly due to passing over cooler water that it upwelled earlier in its track. Ophelia regained hurricane strength over the warm waters of the Gulf Stream. After the collapse of the inner core of convection, the hurricane acquired an unusually large eye over 115 miles (185 km) across and soon reached its peak strength with 85 mph (140 km/h) winds. [+]

Hendoku-Iyaku Transit: TRIPAXEPTALIS {18LE30}

The prize for the most imaginative name goes to (2037) Tripaxeptalis. The name is pure invention but sounds like “triPax-septAlice”, which reflects the fact that its permanent designation is three times that of (679) Pax and seven times that of (291) Alice.The Naming of Asteroids

triangulating between "triPax" & "septAlice" locates the mid-point, or location of Hendoku Iyaku. MoonCat explains different astrological aspects: Trines (360/3=120°) make up the 3rd harmonic & considered harmonious; Septiles (360/7=51.43°) are the 7th harmonic & considered mystical. the midpoint is a Bi-Novile aspect (360/9=40° | 40° x 2 = 80°): novile = 40°, bi-novile = 80°, quad-novile = 160°. numerologically, 3+3+3=9 & resonates with the novile aspects, or the 9th harmonic. generally, EON phase for triPax asteroid is EON-13, EON phase for septAlice asteroid is EON-6 & EON phase for midpoint asteroid is EON-9 (which fits since EON-9 represents the ground of operation). if closest triPax asteroid less than 120° (as it is during this cycle) phase is EON-12. if closest septAlice asteroid less than 51.43° phase is EON-5.

MIDPOINT :: PFUND {13SC52Rx} — 85º21'32" from TRIPAXEPTALIS @ EON-9 : Lichtung, Ground of Operation, Maturation, Swift Growth

SEPTILE :: VINDEMIATRIX {10LI01} — 51º31'31" from TRIPAXEPTALIS @ EON-6 : Endurance, Illuminating Intervention, Larger Forces, Crisis of Growth

TRINE :: MOGUNTIA {18SG17Rx} — 119º46'23" from TRIPAXEPTALIS @ EON-12 : Maturation, Cosmic Intent, Higher Spin, Catalysing

still sorting through this one & may write more later. MOGUNTIA post looks at its strategic military role during the Roman Empire.

NOAA's 2006 Hurricane Season Outlooks & Storm Names

NOAA News :: May 22, 2006 — NOAA today announced to America and its neighbors throughout the north Atlantic region that a very active hurricane season is looming, and encouraged individuals to make preparations to better protect their lives and livelihoods. May 21-27 is National Hurricane Preparedness Week.

NOAA' seasonal hurricane outlooks, with the shaded areas indicating the main regions where tropical depressions, tropical storms, and hurricanes usually form. The outlooks indicate a 80% chance of an above-normal Atlantic hurricane season, and an 80% chance of a below-normal East Pacific hurricane season. Also, they indicate a below-normal hurricane season for the Central Pacific.

NOAA’s 2006 Atlantic hurricane season outlook indicates an 80% chance of an above-normal hurricane season, a 15% chance of a near-normal season, and only a 5% chance of a below-normal season. This outlook is produced by scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC), National Hurricane Center (NHC), and Hurricane Research Division (HRD) [...] The outlook calls for a very active 2006 season, with 13-16 named storms, 8-10 hurricanes, and 4-6 major hurricanes. The likely range of the ACE index is 135%-205% of the median. This prediction indicates a continuation of above-normal activity that began in 1995. However, we do not currently expect a repeat of last year’s record season.

The predicted 2006 activity strongly reflects an expected continuation of conditions associated with the multi-decadal signal, which has favored above-normal Atlantic hurricane seasons since 1995. These conditions include considerably warmer than normal sea surface temperatures (SSTs), lower wind shear, reduced sea level pressure, and a more conducive structure of the African easterly jet. An updated Atlantic hurricane outlook will be issued in early August, which begins the peak months (August-October) of the hurricane season. [+]

New Asteroids List (Cycle #24) - [final]

cleaned up Hopper Asteroids list removing duplicates, &c. to drive this to 1316 i need 59 asteroids: 1257+59=1316. here's preliminary list:

UPDATE [30-May|05:02am] :: removed ARENDA, REINMUTHIA, JAMES BOND & WIGEON = replaced with PATRICIANN, CARESTIA, HELVETIA & ELPIS.

UPDATE [30-May|02:18pm] :: asteroids FRANKE, ARISTIDES & APHRODITE removed; replaced with GRB 060218, Comet Pojmanski & Nebula NGC 6751. list finalized.

UPDATE [31-May|07:47am] :: oh, goody. forgot asteroid GORDONIA is already listed — mighty APHRODITE back on the list.

UPDATE [31-May|09:04am] :: even better. #43844-ROWLING kicks off LARRY.

UPDATE [31-May|09:30am] :: oh, bother! i need more coffee, GORDONIA is not already listed. hmmm. WIGEON returns & ISRAEL & TAIWAN removed. LANGLEY should stay since they're the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic.

UPDATE [03-Jun|07:18am] :: title for post originally "New Asteroids List (Cycle #23)" because i thought i'd update Cycle #23 transits. however, by the time i completed everything it was Cycle #24. so Cycle #23 wasn't updated.
