Volturnalia was the Roman festival on August 27 dedicated to Volturnus, 'god of the waters,' god of fountains. Volturnus was a tribal river god who later was identified as god of the Tiber river. The Volturnus River, in southern Italy, is named for him. Volturnus was the father of the goddess Juturna, who was first identified with a spring in Latium near the Numicus River and later with a pool near the temple of Vesta in the Forum of Rome. They were both honored on this day with feasting, wine-drinking, and games.

In Roman mythology, Volturnus was a god of the waters, probably derived from a local Samnite cult. The Volturnus river in Campania is named in his honour.
Volturnus fl., Volturnum :: Etymology: The name is strongly linked with that of the city Capua, which was called also Volturnum (Liv.) Since Capua has been thought to derive from an appellative or a personal name meaning 'hawk', also Volturnus has been related to Latin voltur 'vulture', which has been reconstructed from IE *gwletur-. But this word has been explained as Etruscan by many scholars, and the same name of the river has been explained as Etruscan velthur 'hawk' (Facchetti). An alternative explaination, that fits better the form Olotronus, could be from 'the curved river', with the first part from the IE root *uel(e)- 'to turn, wind', and the second part that is maybe the IE agent suffix *-ter-, like in Cluturnum.
A flamen was a priest of the Roman religion. The etymology of the word flamen is obscure. Some Indo-Europeanists have attempted to link it to the Sanskrit word brahman; this etymology is controversial. There were fifteen flamines in the Roman republic. The most important three were the flamines maiores, who served three Roman gods (Jupiter, Mars & Quirinus). These flamines were required to be patricians ... The remaining flaminii, called flamines minores, could be plebeians. Some of the deities they worshipped were rather obscure, which suggests the antiquity of the institution and the pre-republican origin of these priesthoods ... Flamen Volturnalis, who worshipped Volturnus
Between the advent of meteorology as a considered science with the early Presocratics through to Theophrastus, great steps were made in anemology. It is mainly the work of Theophrastus, who built upon Aristotle’s findings, that contributed most to the field, and with the study of natural philosophy of Rome, there is little that can be added by way of serious research. The Roman interest in anemology and meteorology was slow to begin, and did not reach its zenith until the works of Pliny the Elder and Seneca. The Epicurean Lucretius provides a good example of the earlier use of meteorology, which in his work De Rerum Natura tended towards the heavily poetic rather than the strictly scientific; thus his account of the seasonal year: On came Spring and Venus, and her winged harbinger [Cupid] marching before, with Zephyrus and Flora a pace behind him strewing the whole path in front with brilliant colours and filling it with scents. Next in place follows parching Heat, along with Ceres his dusty comrade, and the Etesian winds that blow from the north-east. Next comes Autumn, and marching beside him Euhius Euan [Bacchus]. Then follow other seasons and winds, Volturnus thundering on high and Auster, lord of lightning (591) ... Volturnus (wind ESE-SE) is a dry wind from the landmass of Asia Minor, while Auster is the south wind.

Here's a list of definitions of the wind gods from Mythtext, a web site: Eurus: Greek god of east wind. Son of Eos, possibly by Astraeus. Sometimes equated by the Romans with Volturnus, the god of the river Tiber.

The Volturnalia is a festival dedicated to Volturnus, the river god (of the Tiber) and an alter-ego of Janus. Volturnus was the father of the goddess Juturna and they were both honored this day with feasting, wine-drinking and games. August was originally called Sextilis, or the sixth month (after March). It was renamed in honor of Augustus Caesar, the most revered of the Roman emperors. In Egypt, this day was known as the Nativity of Isis. Although originally a foreign deity, the worship of Isis became popular among many Romans. Isis was the daughter of the earth god Geb and the sky goddess Nut. This day was celebrated as the Festival of Liberty (or day of Freedom) in Greece every fours years, and games would be held at Plataea.
NASA scheduled the 27th launch for Atlantis for September 2005, during the window of September 9 - 24. It is unlikely to fly on schedule, due to the complications during Discovery's launch of mission STS-114 and NASA's subsequent suspension of all future shuttle launches. It is the designated STS-300 rescue orbiter for the STS-114 mission.
STS-121 is the second "Return To Flight" mission. It is still considered a test flight. The next launch window starts September 9, 2005. This date is unlikely the actual launch date because NASA has suspended all Space Shuttle flights until the foam debris problem that doomed STS-107 and reappeared in STS-114 is fixed.
