‣ Thirteen Satires of Juvenal: With a Commentary by John E. B. Mayor — 313–4 19 § 2 Harmonia rightly called child of Ares and Aphrodite, for states live in concord when strength is wedded to sweetnes. [Plut.] vit. Hom. 101—2 gives a physical interpretation: Aphrodite is the φιλία 'attraction,' Ares the νεῖκος 'repulsion' of Empedokles; Helios detects them, Hephaestos binds them, Poseidon looses them; i.e. the warm, dry element, and its opposite, the cold and moist, by turns combine and dissolve all things. Harmonia is their daughter, for a due combination of high and low notes produces harmony.
‣ Athenian Political Art from the Fifth and Fourth Centuries BCE: Images of Political Personifications· Philia (Friendship) · Φιλία — Like Agathe Tyche, Philia was at times political, but not always. Philia (ἡ φιλία) “the natural force which unites discordant elements and movements” (LSJ) could refer to friendship between household members or between neighboring households. In his poem On the Nature of Things, Empedocles (early fifth century) wrote of philia as the polar force that opposed neikos (τό νεῖκος), strife, feud, or hostility (DK, 31 B 16, 18-20). Philia was then taken to be domestic political force, that which joined demesmen, and citizens.
‣ ON THE 'E'* AT DELPHI — IV. Ammonius gave a quiet smile; he had a suspicion that Lamprias had been giving us a view of his own, making up history and legend at discretion. Some one else said that it was like the nonsense which they had heard from the Chaldæan stranger a day or so before; that there were seven letters which were vowels, seven stars that have an independent motion and are unattached to the heavens; moreover that 'E' is the second vowel from the beginning, and the sun the second planet, after the moon, and that all Greeks, or nearly all, identify Apollo with the sun.
‣ The Meaning of the E at Delphi — {Appendix V (385–387), The Sirius Mystery, Robert Temple, 1998} — The facts that Delphi is the second descending centre in the geodetic octave, and that it is symbolized by the second vowel E, would seem to go well together. The seven vowels (each corresponding to one of the oracle centres) were uttered in succession as the holy 'unspeakable' name of God by Egyptian priests… And if that is the case, it would seem that the entire system would be associated with and actually comprise a geodetic spelling-out, over eight degrees of latitude…
