Flight Day #5 :: 747

#747 Winchester (1913 QZ), Main-belt Asteroid, Discovered 1913-Mar-07 by Metcalf, J. H. at Winchester; named for Winchester, Massachusetts, USA, from where the discoverer observed; [+] city in Hampshire, capital of Wessex and later of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom, O.E. Uintancæstir (c.730), from Ouenta (c.150), from Venta, a pre-Celtic name perhaps meaning "favored or chief place" + O.E. ceaster "Roman town." The meaning "kind of breech-loading repeating rifle" is from the name of Oliver F. Winchester; [+] Winchester Castle: well known for the Great Hall of its castle, which was built in the 12th century. The Great Hall was rebuilt, sometime between 1222-1235, and still exists in this form. It is famous for King Arthur's Round Table, which has hung in the hall from at least 1463 [...] The names of the legendary Knights of the Round Table are written around the edge of the table surmounted by King Arthur on his throne [+][+][+][+][+][+]

AQ-747 = MEANINGLESS INDICATION OF PROCESSOR SPEED = MULTIPLE UNIONS COMPETING FOR WORKERS = SIGNATURE CHORD PROGRESSION GUITAR RIFF = STATE-BY-STATE EMISSIONS OF CARBON DIOXIDE = STS-51-L COMMANDER SCOBEE PLAYS FOUR DIAMONDS 4♦ = VERTICAL COMPONENT OF EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD.

background: last focused inspection occurred on first return to flight mission, STS-114: NSF: Return to Flight, STS-114: Launch sequence anomalies, Statement on Foam Shedding From External Tank, Hitman Hill lays down the law, The External Tank, LOX Feedline Bellows, something i dug up.

if i understand correctly, fix involves titanium brackets & currently 3 tanks do not have this fix. (or, fix won't appear until the mission before Hubble mission). first: tanks are numbered (Hale on tanks); second: launch manifest - STS-120, STS-122, STS-123, STS-124, STS-125.

[+] A second improvement effort has focused on continuing to reduce the debris risk posed by foam being released from the external tank during ascent. In addition to our continuous foam application process improvement efforts, we recently completed a critical design review for changes to the liquid hydrogen ice-frost ramps and liquid oxygen feedline bracket. The new ice- frost ramp design will be implemented on External Tank 120, currently scheduled to support mission STS-120 later this year. The ice-frost ramp and the feedline bracket redesigns will be flown together on External Tank 128, which will be flown before the Hubble Space Telescope servicing mission currently scheduled for September 2008.

[09:03pm] :: successful SSPTS operation extends STS-118* mission from 11-days to 14-days: adding EVA4 (17-Aug); undocking (20-Aug), landing (22-Aug). bumping Return to Flight counter from 754 to 757 [placing landing in "home run" position]. focused inspection completed, 4 areas of interest cleared & this is #5 getting checked at Ames 'Arc Jet' facilities. missed today's MSB but plan to view video & take notes as soon as it's posted at NSF. M&M toasting marshmallows in Quest for EVA2 (replace busted Z1 gyro). i'm a tad fried working on this, post FD#748 before head crashes keyboard.
