The Golden Dawn (Regardie)

Adeptus Minor Obligation {pg.10 The Golden Dawn, Regardie}

The Adeptus Minor obligatin contains the following clause, which is the quintessence of the entire Golden Dawn magical work:

{Tiphareth} I further promise and swear that with the Divine permission I will, from this day forward, apply myself to the Great Work — which is, to purify and exalt my Spiritual Nature so that with the Divine Aid I may at length attain to be more than human, and thus gradually raise and unite myself to my Higher and Divine Genius, and that in this event I will not abuse the great power entrusted to me.

Regardie points out that Crowley translates this as the Knowledge & Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel.

As the Tiphareth clause of the obligation, it is the most important one of all the ten clauses. And in one way or another, its fulfillment is pointed to in nearly every important phaseof the Order work ... this one goal is in the background, giving meaning and substance to all else. No matter, then, what aspect of the work the student devotes himself to, he should never lose sight of this one clause, and the goal to which it refers.

One particular passage in Z-2 found immediately after its opening confirms this notion in a specially powerful way. Describing the temple in reference to the Sephiroth, it says:

The Temple is arranged in the Neophyte Grade of the Order of the Golden Dawn in the Outer, is placed looking towards the YH or YHVH in Malkuth in Assiah. That is, as Y and H answer unto the Sephiroth Chokmah and Binah in the Tree, (and unto Abba and Aim, through whose knowledge along that of Kether may be obtained) even so, the Sacred Rites of the Temple may gradually, as it were, in spite of himself, lead the Neophyte unto the knowledge of his Higher Self. (italics Regardie)

There are several other passages confirmatory of this important set of ideas. One of them relates to the Hierophant's wand which "represents him as touching thereby the Divine Light of Kether and attracting through the Middle Pillar to Malkuth". Another concerns the so-called Banner of the East which "affirms the mode of action employed by the Divine Light in its operation by the Forces of Nature. Upon it is the symbol of the Macrocosm so colored as to affirm the action of the Fire of the Spirit through the Waters of Creation under the harmony of the Golden Cross of the Reconciler ... The whole represents the ascent of the Initiate into the Perfect Knowledge of the Light". (italics Regardie)

Enochian Temples

The names of the six Seniors are made into a star-shaped formation. (Fig. ?) The first letter of each name is formed into an equilateral triangle having sides of one unit, and the remaining letters are assigned to squares extending in a line from the base of the triangle. The triangular units are fitted together to form a hexagonal center to the star. Except for this center, the arms of the star-shape are bent downwards at an angle of about thirty degrees to form the roof-braces of the Temple. The outermost square of each arm will be at the height of the tops of the Kerubic pillars. The arms should extend outwards far enough that a circle touching all their ends would just enclose the Malkuth squares of the sephirotic crosses.

The Beast and the Star

There were then a series of pictures in which the relations between the downward-pointing triangle and the upward-pointing triangle in the hexagram were demonstrated. It was noted that the forces of the two triangles are complimentary and act in opposition to each other when allowed to. They tend to push each other apart, causing Dispersion. It was then shown that for the triangle to unite into the hexagram in man they have to be interlocked with each other. Otherwise, the downward-tending emotional forces (Luna, Mars, Jupiter) and the upward-tending mental forces (Saturn, Mercury, Venus) will act in such a way as to disrupt each other's effects.

Platinum Metal Group

The 38 elements in groups 3 through 12 of the periodic table are called "transition metals". As with all metals, the transition elements are both ductile and malleable, and conduct electricity and heat. The interesting thing about transition metals is that their valence electrons, or the electrons they use to combine with other elements, are present in more than one shell. This is the reason why they often exhibit several common oxidation states. There are three noteworthy elements in the transition metals family. These elements are iron, cobalt, and nickel, and they are the only elements known to produce a magnetic field. {Transition Metals}

The platinum group or platinum family is a group of six metal elements with similar physical and chemical properties. The family consists of ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum. These transition metals occupy the rectangular area in the periodic table at the intersection of periodic table groups, 8, 9, and 10 with periods 5 and 6. {Platinum Group}

In homogeneous catalysis the reactants, products and catalyst are all in the same phase. Often the reactants, products and catalyst are all dissolved in the same solvent. Due to environmental considerations this solvent is often water. In these situations the catalyst may be a transition metal ion catalysing a redox reaction. The transition metal ion catalyses the original reaction by providing an alternative route between reactants and products that has a lower activation enthalpy. It can do this because transition metals can form stable compounds in more than one oxidation state and the transition metal ions can therefore readily move between oxidation states. During the catalysed reaction the transition metal ion is oxidised by one reactant to a higher oxidation state. This is then reduced back to the original form by reaction with the other reactant. The reactants are therefore converted to the same products as are formed without the catalyst. The only difference is that the reactants are converted into products more quickly. {Homogeneous catalysts}

 • Gold, and the "heavy platinum group" {Platinum (Pt)}{Iridium (Ir)}{Osmium (Os)}; 4d transition, group elements.

 • note: copper, cobalt and nickel are non-precious elements in the transition group also called 2d transition group elements.
